Take back your economy – support the alternative to big business! A food cooperative is a grocery store owned by the community. As a community-owned and governed business, our co-op will be driven by our values.

Together, we can:
  • Create a business operated with honesty and integrity, whose actions, policies, and products demonstrate respect for people and the environment.
  • Build a healthier world by supporting local growers, sustainable enterprises and small-scale organic farmers.
  • Sustain a thriving, safe and local food supply, which serves our neighborhood and strengthens the local economy.
  • Promote conscious consumerism and build community by sharing information about food and food issues.
While anyone will be welcome to shop at the co-op, Owners will receive specific benefits and privileges as determined by the Owner-elected board and stated in the bylaws.

A one-time investment of $150 buys a share and makes you a Member/Owner entitled to full benefits and voting privileges. A share may be purchased over 3 years, in payments of at least $5. Your benefits begin as soon as you make your first payment.

Each Owner receives one vote: Owners vote on big decisions and elect a board of directors. Owners may run for the board of directors. Owners will receive various discounts - such as case discounts, regular Owner discount days, discounts on non-food items and classes, discounts at other co-ops or supporting businesses.
Owners:
  • Provide capital to finance the business
  • Help decide the financial future of their co-op
  • Control the business equitably – one vote per owner
As a not-for-profit, community-owned business, any money GWCG makes will go back into the store. Once the business is financially sound, a share of the profits will be returned to Owner/Members based on how much they spend at the co-op as “patronage refunds”.

When we receive the signed agreement and payment, we will send your Owner card and new member information. Anyone buying at least one full share at $150 before the store opens will be honored and recognized as a Founding Owner!
